HESSE HERMANN: (1877-1962) German-born Swiss Poet, Novelist and Painter. Nobel prize in Literature, 1946. An excellent A.L.S., H.Hesse, one page, small 8vo, n.p., n.d., to Mr. Weigel, in German. Hesse states `I was pleased that you thought of me in Vienna, and that you sent me your nice and noteworthy novel. Thank you. I send you enclosed something new too, I think of you and your homeland..´. Bearing to the bottom left corner an Austrian ink stamp. Together with T.L., to a small 8vo card, bearing a printed landscape colour drawing by Hesse entitled ''Dorf im Tessin'' above the typed text `Mr. Hesse has been ill for a long time, he is at Baden right now, and will be back shortly.´ Post-stamped and postmarked to the verso, Zurich, April 1942.
