The Lubavitcher Rebbe
Rabbi Menachem M. Schneursahn, known as the Lubavitcher Rabbi, is one of the most important leaders of modern times. Ostensibly, he is the rabbi of the Chabad Hassidim (wisdom, intelligence, da'at) but his influence went far beyond the boundaries of this movement.
Already in his youth the Rebbe was revealed as a "child prodigy" and invested all his energy in learning Torah. In his adulthood he acquired a higher education at the University of Berlin and the Sorbonne in Paris.
In 1941 he managed to escape the horror of the Holocaust and came with his wife to the USA. He immediately began his strenuous activity to restore and establish deep-rooted Jewish organizations and educational institutions in the USA and around the world. He also engaged in deepening Jewish consciousness through special "operations" around the world - starting with Operation "Tefillin", through Operation "Love of Israel" and ending with Operation "Messiah". His universal educational work was generally appreciated, so much so that the President of the United States established by law the Rebbe's birthday as "National Education Day".
The face of the medal: the Rebbe's portrait in a high-quality silk print and the inscription: "The Rebbe of Lubavitch", "Rebbe Menachem Mendel Schneursahn".
The back of the medal: the famous home of the Rebbe and his followers and the numerals "770" - which symbolize (in addition to the address) the center of activity of the Chabad movement. The word "Varatz" - is the Rebbe's slogan for constant and strenuous activity, as stated in Jacob's dream (Genesis 28, 14).
