Letters by Rabbi Mendel Alter Rabbi of Pabianitz and by Rabbi Chanoch HaCohen Levine Rabbi of Bendin
Three interesting letters handwritten and signed by Rabbi Mendeli Alter Rabbi of Pabianitz to Rabbi Yisrael Nisan Kupershtoch Rabbi of Makova who immigrated to Jerusalem. Pabianitz, 1927-1929. In one of the letters, Rabbi Mendeli also writes Torah thoughts, after receiving the book Ani ben Pachma.
A letter postcard by Rabbi Chanoch Zvi HaCohen Levine Rabbi of Bendin, to Rabbi Mendel Alter, "I have received his letter and immediately we have written to my brother in law [author of Imrei Emet], and likewise, I have spoken with the Rebbe of Alexander who also wrote¦ ". Bendin, 1929. The content of the letters which were respectfully and fondly written, reveal a little of the stress that existed between the Gur Chassidim and the Alexander Chassidim, also concerning the distribution of the monies of Kupat Ramban - Kollel Poland in Jerusalem.
Rabbi Menachem Mendel Alter - Rabbi of Pabianitz (1877-1942), youngest son of the Gur Rebbe, author of Sfat Emet, was one of the heads of Agudat HaRabbanim in Poland. He was the right hand of his brother author of Imrei Emet managing public affairs in Poland and throughout the Jewish world and founder of a large chain of yeshivot in Poland. He was murdered in the Holocaust with all the Jews of his city who were taken to Treblinka.
Rabbi Chanoch Zvi HaCohen Levine (1871-1935), Rabbi of Bendin, son in law of the Sfat Emet and a prominent rabbi in Poland. He was the father of Rabbi Yitzchak Meir HaCohen Levine, (who was the son in law of his uncle author of Imrei Emet, a leader of Agudat Yisrael in Poland and in Eretz Yisrael). Part of his novellae was printed in the book Yechahen Pe'er (Warsaw 1936(.
The recipient: Rabbi Yisrael Nisan Kupershtoch, (1858-1930), from the family of the Alexander Rebbes, who immigrated to Jerusalem in 1925, see Item 299.
