***Auction Highlight*** 1854-s Gold Liberty Double Eagle $20 Graded ms63 By SEGS. Large S. Dies were received for the first time at the San Francisco Mint on March 15, 1854, having been sent from Philadelphia, where they were produced. The first deposit was made at the S-mint on April 3, and the first coins -- double eagles -- were struck 12 days later. By the end of the year, the nascent branch mint had manufactured 141,468 twenty dollar gold pieces. Perhaps 100 or so representatives survive in mint condition, with few known finer than this Select example. Brightly frosted yellow-gold surfaces showcase razor-sharp design elements and a handful of grade-defining abrasions. Advanced die cracks appear on each side, and some planchet roughness occurs below the second S in STATES. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation
