***Auction Highlight*** Ultra Rare 1861 Union Civil War Dog Tag/ID Tag 5th Regiment Vermont Graded XF By SEGS. There were no government-issued military “dog tags” during the Civil War war. And soldiers were terrified that if they were killed, in the chaos of battle their bodies would never be identified. So a man might write his name on a piece of paper and pin it to his uniform before going into combat. He might stencil his name on his clothing. Or he might buy his own ID badge. The 5th Vermont Infantry was a Volunteer Unit and part of the Army of the Potomac, in the Vermont Brigade of the Sixth Army Corps. It included a total of 1618 soldiers. The regiment was mustered into Federal service on September 16, 1861, at St. Albans, Vermont. Here is a List of the Battles This ID Tag Was in Yorktown, Williamsburg, Savage's Station, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, 2nd Fredericksburg Battle, Salem Church, Gettysburg, Battle of the wilderness, Spotsylvania, Cold Harbor, Siege of Petersburg A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation
