An Open Letter Addressed to Sir Moses Montefiore [Together with a Narrative of a Forty Days' Sojourn in the Holy Land] – London, 1877 – a Copy Signed by Montefiore
London, 1877. Second edition. Hebrew and English.
The book contains a description of Sir Moses Montefiore's journey to the land of Israel in 1875 and a version of a long and important letter written to him by the two rabbis of Jerusalem, Rabbi Shmuel Salant and Rabbi Meir Auerbach, before his arrival in Jerusalem.
A handwritten dedication on the English title page: "To Mr. Marcus N. Adler, with Sir Moses Montefiore's best wishes", signed by Montefiore himself.
Mounted on the left inner binding is an original picture of Montefiore taken by John Crow Twyman and beneath it a bookplate of Marcus Adler.
Printed on the inside of the English binding is an impressive coat of arms of the Montefiore family, with three flags of "Jerusalem"!

בספר נדפסו [באנגלית] קורות מסעו של ר' משה מונטיפיורי בארץ ישראל בשנת תרל"ה (1875), ונוסח מכתב ארוך וחשוב שכתבו לו שני רבני ירושלים, מרן רבי שמואל סלנט ומרן רבי מאיר אויערבאך, לקראת הגעתו לירושלים.
המכתב נדפס כפי שכתבוהו הרבנים, בעברית, וכן תורגם כאן לאנגלית.
בראש עמוד השער האנגלי מופיעה הקדשה בכתב יד: "To Mr. Marcus N. Adler, with Sir Moses Montefiore's best wishes" ["לאדון מרקוס נ. אדלר, עם מיטב איחוליו של סיר משה מונטיפיורי"]. החתימה היא של מונטיפיורי עצמו.
מרקוס נתן אדלר (1837-1911), בנו של רבי נתן מרקוס, בנו של רבי מרדכי הכהן אדלר (1803-1890), רבה הראשי של בריטניה.
בכריכה הפנימית השמאלית מודבק תצלום מקורי של משה מונטפיורי, מאת John Crow Twyman, ותחתיו מודבק תו ספר של מרקוס אדלר.
בצדה הפנימי של הכריכה האנגלית נדפס סמל מרשים ביותר של משפחת מונטפיורי, עם שלושה דגלי "ירושלים"!
