The book "Sha'arei Avodah" by Rabbi Aharon Ha'Levi Horowitz of Staroszele, a leading disciple of the Alter Rebbe and one of his replacers after his death. The book was printed during his lifetime. First edition. Extremely rare!
Lacking copy: the first 14 leaves, including the title page are completed by photocopy.
In addition, the last three leaves [49-52] of the chapter 'Sha'ar Yichud Ha'Neshamot' are also missing and leaves 1-24 of the chapter of 'Sha'ar Ha'Tefilah'. Leaf 49 of the chapter of 'Sha'ar Yichud Ha'Neshamot' was bound by mistake in the chapter of 'Sha'ar ha'Tefilah'.
The first chapter of the book is complete and contains 49 leaves.
The author
After the death of Rabbi Shneur Zalman of Liady, Rabbi Aharon Ha'Levi Horowitz of Staroszele founded his own Hassidic court, where thousands of the Hassidim of the Alter Rebbe gathered. His melodies are sung to this day by Chabad Hassidim. When he was a Rebbe, he wrote Hassidic commentary which was characterized by clear, simple style although it deals with abstract issues such as faith in the unity of God, love of God and Fear of God.
He authored several Hassidic books: "Sha'ar Ha'Yichud Ve'Ha'Emunah", "Sha'arei Avodah" and "Avodat Ha'Levi". Until the 1970's, there was only one edition of his books, making them very rare; however, since then, many more editions were printed.
