Miniature Milah Notebook – Written on Parchment with Magnificent Illustrations – Italy, 1717 – Unique, Impressive Item
An ancient notebook, made of parchment, on which are written in scribal script Seder Ha'Milah with the blessings and Piyyutim. In the second half of the notebook, the Mohel wrote down dozens of the Beritot he had conducted. Italy, [1717].
The notebook contains amazing, artistic illustrations.
A special, most impressive item which was optimally preserved. With a new leather binding and a matching leather case.
Description of the manuscript:
a. The notebook begins with the Piyyut: "Shivtei Yah Nachalatecha" and after it many additional Piyyutim. Then there is Seder Brit Milah (a total of 24 written pages).
b. An impressive illustration of the Brit Milah ceremony depicting the Mohel, the Sandak, the baby and those present at the synagogue.
c. A prescription for stopping the blood of the Milah, written in Italian (in Hebrew letters) and Hebrew: "… crocodile tears … burnt eggshell … mix everything together … "
d. Illustration of a wine goblet (used during the Milah ceremony).
e. A list of Beritot the Mohel had conducted, handwritten by him. Numbered (a total of 28) from the years 1718-1728. The Beritot took place in different cities of Italy, including Mantova. Among others, he circumcised his son Avraham Shlomo Chaim and the baby Shabtai, the son of Rabbi Menachem Rieti (mentioned in 'Pachad Yitzchak'?).
13 written pages and some more empty pages at the end of the notebook.
Size of leaves: 10 cm.
Condition: Good. Time stains. Wine stains (?) on one leaf of Seder Ha'Berit'. No title page. it is possible that originally, there were additional pages at the beginning of the notebook which are now missing.
