Manuscript by Rabbi Akiva Eiger – Novella eon the Ketubot Tractate, Some of Which has Never Been Printed! – an Exceptionally Rare Item!
Novellae on the Ketubot tractate handwritten by Rabbi Akiva Eiger!
Approximately seventy lines handwritten by him! Extremely rare!
Recently, important auctions have offered halachic responsa handwritten by Rabbi Akiva Eiger. However, the item before us is one of a kind: novellae on the Talmud which are studied by thousands of learners!
The novellae before us are from leaf 65 to leaf 71. Most of them were printed in the book "Drush Ve'Chidush"; however, in the manuscript before us they are written in a different style! It is common knowledge that the book was edited by his sons and is not written in his original language (as noted by his sons in their preface of the aforementioned book). Here we have the novellae in the author's original language!
In addition, the manuscript includes three novellae that have not been printed at all! Assuming the book was printed according to the manuscript before us, the question of why these novellae were omitted from the printed version should be examined. In any case, they are an invaluable treasure for all Torah learners!
The manuscript also contains additions and erasures handwritten by Rabbi Akiva Eiger.
Enclosed is confirmation by an expert about the identification of the manuscript as handwritten by Rabbi Akiva Eiger.
Condition: Good. The script is readable. A stain of dampness on part of the leaf with no damage to text. Impressive leather binding.
