Manuscript, Sefer Sechel Tov – Persia (Iran), 1790 – Written for Rabbi Moshe the Son of the "Or Sheraga" and the Rabbi of Yazd
An early copying from the book 'Sechel Tov' by Rabbi Simcha Katz Rappaport. The copying was done in 1790 in Kashan, Persian (today, Iran), according to the Zholkva edition 1749. The composition is copied word for word, including the title page.
On the last leaf, a colophon: "Completed on Fiday the 20th of the month of Tamuz 5550 [1749] to the creation by the youngest of the student Abba the son of Rabbi Aharon Ha'Cohen … I have written it for the scholar the excellent Dayan … Rabbi Moshe the son of Rabbi M. Ori …" He is referring to the son of the Divine Kabbalist Mulah "Or Sheraga", Rabbi Moshe, who was the rabbi of Yazd and was admired by his contemporaries. The manuscript was written in the lifetimeof the "Or Sheraga", who died in 1794.
On the title page of the manuscript appears the stamp of his son, Rabbi Raphael, who was known as a Tzaddik, even among the gentiles and was also well-known for his power to annual harsh decrees against the Jews of his town. There is also the stamp and signature of his grandson, Rabbi Moshe ben Rabbi Yitzchak, who served as the rabbi of Yazd during the years 1890-1900.
