The Katowice Conference - the First of Chovevei Zion - Vienna, 1920
The Katowice Conference, the first of Chovevei Zion, in 1885. Republished by Libel Toivash.
A fascinating, important booklet.
The content of the booklet: A short preface by the publisher and the protocol of the conference.
The Katowice Conference took place in 1884 and was the founding conference of the "Chibat Zion" Movement. The conference united all the secret societies of "Chovevei Zion" to an open movement. The conference laid the foundation for organized national activity.
The discussions of the conference were held in a festive atmosphere and a historical sense of the beginning of a new period in the life of the Jewish nation. The conference decided to send a delegation to the Land of Israel to examine the achievements and difficulties of the first settlers of the country. It was also decided to send a delegation to the Turkish Sultan to persuade him to give the Jews license to settle in the Land of Israel.
