Note: Phar Lap was a New Zealand bred Thoroughbred racehorse regarded as one of the greatest racehorses ever. He won 37 races from 51 starts. His rise from humble beginnings captured the public imagination in The Depression of the 1930s. His controversial death in 1932 prompted a public outpour of anger and grief.
