MUSIC AND THEATER - NOVELLI Ermete (1851 - 1919) - Italian actor - Autograph letter signed, dated “Alessandria 19 Aprile 1899” by the Italian actor, recognised as one of the greatest masters of Italian dramatic art. In 1873, he married the actress Lina Marazzi, a cousin of Angelo Diligenti, by whom he had two sons: Sandro and Enrico, who was to become an illustrator, artist and author of children's books under the pseudonym Yambo. Being very busy, he declines the offer of his correspondent Carlo Alarico (presumably an impresario) for a series of performances: “…pel Maggio sono scritturato a Firenze, per i primi 15 giorni (…) e pel resto a Venezia (…) a Bologna debbo dare 3, niente meno tre, recite di beneficienza…”. He goes on asking for an actress: “…Hai sottomano, per l’anno venturo, una amorosina, bella e bravina da mettermi sotto?…”. He then writes about his latest success: “..Del mio trionfo Egiziano non te ne parlo, perché la mia modestia me lo impedisce. Ti basti solo che il mio impresario si guadagna solo una quarantina di mille lire!…”. 2 pp. In-4. With letterhead “Ermete Novelli”. - This lot is located in EU.
