A crested barometer ca. 1745. Marked "H.K. Prins, Amsteld." It is a pity that so little is known about
Hendrik Prins from Amsterdam: by far the best barometer maker our country has ever produced. Quite a few years ago, a German historian apparently came up with the brave plan to write a biography of this absolute professional. However, since nothing can be said with certainty about even his exact dates of birth and death - it is conveniently assumed that he was born somewhere around 1696 and died around 1762 - it will come as no surprise that nothing came of this endeavor.
