A CHINESE GREEN JADE TWIN-EAGLE PLAQUE, POST-SHIJIAHE CULTURE (CIRCA 2000–1800 BC) - A finely carved green jade plaque depicting two stylized eagles facing one another in a symmetrical composition. The elegant openwork design and flowing spiral motifs reflect the sophisticated artistic traditions of the Post-Shijiahe culture, where birds symbolized spiritual power and a connection between heaven and earth. The plaque displays a soft green tone with areas of natural calcification and age-related patina. Height 7.9 cm. PROVENANCE From a private Canadian collection. Formerly from Mr. Huang Zhi-Ming, a Taiwanese private collector. Mr. Huang acquired the jade pieces in Hong Kong. Some from Mr. Lai Loy (1926 - 2012), a jade dealer on Hollywood Road well known for handling and supplying archaic jade pieces to collectors, museums and other dealers and some some from private collectors in Hong Kong.
