A CHINESE WHITE JADE TIGER, SHANG DYNASTY (CIRCA 1600–1046 BC) - A rare white jade tiger carved in a powerful recumbent pose, embodying strength, courage, and protection. Finely incised geometric and stylized motifs decorate the body. The sculpture displays a smooth creamy-white surface with natural age-related patina and mineral inclusions. Length 11 cm. PROVENANCE From a private Canadian collection. Formerly from Mr. Huang Zhi-Ming, a Taiwanese private collector. Mr. Huang acquired the jade pieces in Hong Kong. Some from Mr. Lai Loy (1926 - 2012), a jade dealer on Hollywood Road well known for handling and supplying archaic jade pieces to collectors, museums and other dealers and some some from private collectors in Hong Kong.
