A JADE TIGER, CHINA, SHANG DYNASTY (CIRCA 1600–1046 BC) - A finely carved green jade tiger displaying the powerful and stylized forms characteristic of early Chinese ritual art. Decorated with geometric motifs and a curled tail, the figure embodies strength, protection, and authority. The smooth surface and natural patina enhance its historical appeal and craftsmanship. Length 10.8 cm. PROVENANCE From a private Canadian collection. Formerly from Mr. Huang Zhi-Ming, a Taiwanese private collector. Mr. Huang acquired the jade pieces in Hong Kong. Some from Mr. Lai Loy (1926 - 2012), a jade dealer on Hollywood Road well known for handling and supplying archaic jade pieces to collectors, museums and other dealers and some some from private collectors in Hong Kong.
