A ZAND ENGRAVED BRASS CANDLESTICK, PERSIA, 18TH CENTURY - A finely engraved Persian brass candlestick of architectural form, comprising a broad circular drip tray, slender waisted stem and domed bell-shaped candle socket surmounted by a tall cylindrical candle-holder with a broad everted rim. The entire surface is richly decorated with finely engraved floral and foliate ornament, figural scenes and scrolling borders, with bands of geometric and arabesque motifs articulating the various sections. The domed body is particularly finely worked with continuous figural and vegetal decoration, while the stem and candle-holder are enriched with vertical floral panels and moulded bands. The circular drip tray is similarly engraved with dense floral ornament and bordered by scrolling bands. Height 21 cm.
