AN ILLUSTRATED AND ILLUMINATED SHAHNAMEH FOLIO, TAHMURAS DEFEATING THE DIVS, PERSIA TIMURID 15TH CENTURY - A finely illustrated Persian manuscript folio from the Shahnama (Book of Kings), depicting the legendary hero Tahmuras defeating the Divs (demons). The central miniature shows Tahmuras and his companions engaged in combat with the fantastical divs and other creatures across a rocky, mountainous landscape. The miniature is surrounded by multiple panels of Persian text in black nastaʿliq script, with the illustration occupying the central portion of the page. The composition is animated by vivid pigments, including red, blue, green and black, with touches of gold and a richly detailed rocky landscape. The scene illustrates the episode in which Tahmuras, the third mythical king of Persia, battles and defeats the Divs, a celebrated episode in Ferdowsi's Shahnama. 35 by 30 cm.
