Serov Vladimir Alexandrovich (1910, Tverskaya Province - 1968, Moscow).
Full member of the Academy of Arts. People's Artist of the USSR. Corresponding member of the Academy of Arts of the GDR. Laureate of State Prizes in 1948 and 1951. In 1958 he was awarded the gold medal of the USSR Ministry of Culture and the silver medal of the World Exhibition in Brussels. President of the USSR Academy of Arts (1962-1968). Studied at the Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg (1927-1931) in the workshop of V.E. Savinsky, then in graduate school at INZhSA in the workshop of I.I. Brodsky.
Most of the artist's legacy is made up of works on historical and revolutionary themes, as well as a portrait. Serov created a large number of works dedicated to V.I. Lenin ("Walkers at Lenin", "In Smolny", "Winter is taken").
He worked as an illustrator, created illustrations for the poem by N.A. Nekrasov "Who Lives Well in Russia" (1948-1949), to the novel by L.N. Tolstoy's War and Peace (1951-1953).
Participant of exhibitions since 1932. The artist's works are in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum, many regional museums.
