Fonvizin Artur Vladimirovich (1882/83, Riga-1973, Moscow).
One of the most original masters originating from the “Makovets” society, coryphaeus of water-color painting. Studied in Moscow School of Arts, Sculpture and Architecture (1902–1903) under M.P. Klodt and V.N. Baksheev, then in private academies of Munich (1904-1906). Member of Association of Revolutionary Russian Artists and the Society of Moscow Artists. Since late 1920-ies mostly worked with water-colors. His brush work is featured by free quivering touches, washy "fluid" colors, white background fragments (sometimes of color paper), composing the scene of vague fairies concentrated around the images of circus and music (long-lasting series "Circus" and "Songs and Romances"). The master’s works are represented in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum.
