Glazed ceramic box, Dangyangyu, Song dynasty.
"Drum nail lid box" (鼓钉盖盒) made of ceramic with marbled amber glaze and decorated on the lid with protuberances or nails. The form is originally derived from the ancient bronze "Dui" prototypes which consist of a container supported by three legs with a dual-use cover, that is, it was used to contain and eat cereals. In Song times, ceramic products were used for people's daily needs. These types of bowls usually have sinuous-shaped legs and a line in the center instead of being completely rounded.
The Dangyangyu kiln was one of the famous folk kilns of the Song dynasty from North. started its production n in the Tang dynasty and reached peaked at the end of the Northern Song dynasty, continued prospered in the Jin dynasty and began to decline mid-Yuan dynasty.
