NABLUS RARE 1940S AERIAL PHOTOGRAPHS & ARTICLE ON MOUNT GERIZIM
9 Aerial photographs taken by the young IDF Israeli Air Force, showing the small city or town, and the mountains of Ebal and Gerizim.
The photographs are dated 15.9.48, only a few months after the establishment of the State of Israel, while the War of Independence was still going on!!
These photos are part of a research on Mount of Gerizim. For the Samaritan people שומרונים, most of whom live around it, Mount Gerizim is considered the holiest place on Earth.
The research was made as part of soil research and reports made by Prof. Adolph Reifenberg of the Hebrew University.
6 are around 5.5x5.5 inch / 13.5x13.5 cm. One is a collage – made of parts of 4 aerial photographs, and is around 8.5x7.5 inch / 22x18.5 cm.
3 of the photos have a stamp on back "SECRET, Photographed by the Israeli Air Force...".
Also included is an article from 1948 or 1949 on Mount Gerizim, in 4 versions – handwritten in German, and typewritten copies in English and German. Probably by Prof. Adolph Reifenberg. The article refers to the earial photographs and details what can be learned from them.
Very good condition. Minor time flaws.
