The Judgment of Solomon, Italian school of the 17th century - Oil on canvas, based on the passage from the Old Testament Kings I, 3: 16-28, where two mothers appear before King Solomon with two children, one of them dead. Both disputed live, declaring their legitimate mother. The king ordered that they divide the living child in two and give half to each. The real one, moved, gave up on him. Solomon showed her wisdom by giving her the child, considering her the true mother (Kings I, 3: 16-28). The painting represents the moment of greatest dramatic tension in the biblical story, when Solomon stops the execution and saves the child's life.
