According to written tradition, the altarpiece shows Christ on the cross in an evening pose against a background of clouds with figures of angels appearing on two lateral clouds. Mary Magdalene kneels at the foot of the cross, grasping the beam of the cross with her right arm and touching Jesus' foot with a cloth, while she brings her left hand to her breast in humble mourning. On the left, Mother Maria can be seen in a shocked gesture, her upper body slightly turned to the left, her arms outstretched, which is intended to indicate her bewilderment. On the right is John the Evangelist in a traditional green dress with a red cloak over it, both arms crossed over his chest and his head slightly tilted to the right. The movements of the body and head of the assistant figures also function as compositional elements in terms of the composition of the painting, so the diagonal line goes from bottom left to top right in the form of Mary's outstretched arm, according to the address you are in. looking at the figure of Christ, also enhanced compositionally.
