Very important Flagellation of Christ, attributed to Frans Francken II (Antwerp, 1581-1642), Flemish school, 17th century - Oil on copper, documentation is attached, framed measurements: 126 x 109, copper measurements: 87 x 71 cm. Painter Born in Antwerp in 1581, son of Frans Francken I and nephew of Hieronimus Francken. In 1605 he entered the Saint Luke Painters' Guild in his hometown, beginning a career that would last until 1640 in which he specialized as a cabinet painter. Very important is his contribution to the genre of paintings in painting galleries, which would influence artists such as Teniers. From 1620 typical male figures began to appear wearing turbans or Phrygian caps, while his compositions denote a profoundly eclectic character. The general luminosity now reaches its zenith, determining the chromatic scheme of the work, partly influenced by the general harmonization that occurred at the same time in history painting in the Flemish school. Highlighting his collaboration with other artists, in whose landscapes or interior scenes he painted the figures, his cooperation with Tobias Verhaecht, Joost de Momper II, Pieter Neefs or Paul Vredeman de Vries, among others, being common.
