Attributed to Domenico Fiasella IL SARZANA (1589-1669), 17th century Italian school, 150 x 115 cm
Oil on canvas attributed to Domenico Fiasella "Il Sarzana" (1589-1669), a master of the Italian Baroque. The work shows an intimate moment of the Passion of Christ, where the Savior, with his crown of thorns and purple cloak, is mocked by a Roman soldier holding a reed. The details in Christ's expression, together with the tenebrist lighting, reflect the drama characteristic of the Baroque.
