Saint Paul the Apostle, Roman school, 17th to early 18th century, oil on canvas
Oil on canvas. Dimensions: 40 x 34 cm. It represents Saint Paul the Apostle, from the 17th century Roman school. The figure of the apostle, known for his evangelising mission, is captured in a reflective attitude, holding the sword of his martyrdom. The scene, which stands out for its detailed treatment of the clothing and the serenity of the countenance, reflects the teachings of the Roman Baroque, centred on the emotional representation of holiness and the dramatic use of light to create a spiritual effect.
