Flemish School of the 17th Century - The Prayer in the Garden
Oil on copper. Dimensions: 52 x 46 cm. "The Prayer in the Garden" is an emblematic work of 17th-century Flemish art, painted on copper, a less common support that allows for a more detailed execution. Christ is depicted in the scene of Gethsemane, while he prays fervently, while the apostles sleep nearby. The drama of the dark sky and the supernatural lighting reinforce the intensity of the moment.
