Follower of FEDERICO BAROCCI (Urbino, 1528-1612) - Madonna of the Cherries
Oil on canvas. Dimensions: 182 x 238 cm This work, clearly inspired by the work of the famous Italian master Federico Barocci, shows the Holy Family in a moment of intimate and devotional serenity. The scene presents the Virgin Mary, Saint Joseph and the Child Jesus in a pastoral setting, where the affectionate gesture of the Virgin giving some cherries to the Child symbolizes maternal sweetness and the abundance of nature, a recurring emblem of the Renaissance. The composition is meticulously constructed, combining warm and cold tones that balance the scene, while the use of light highlights the purity and grace of the figures. The soft and detailed brushwork refers to Barocci's style, characterized by an expressive refinement and an emotional sensitivity that influenced later generations. The work reflects the Renaissance ideal of harmony and spirituality in its interpretation of the Holy Family, fusing naturalistic and symbolic elements with remarkable technical skill.
