Following Dutch models of the 17th century - Pair of seascapes, Spanish School of the 20th century
Oil on canvas. Dimensions: 165 x 120 (left), 175 x 131 cm (right). Signed on the back "C.YTARTE 1951". These two seascapes, signed by "C. Ytarte" in 1951, show the influence of the Dutch pictorial tradition in the representation of dramatic maritime landscapes, with their cloud-laden skies and tumultuous waves. The choice of green and blue tones, combined with a precise treatment of the boats, evokes an atmosphere of uncertainty and defiance in the face of the immensity of the sea. Ytarte reinterprets Dutch classicism in a contemporary context, providing his works with their own narrative in the history of Spanish painting.
