17th Century Colonial School - Transverberation of Santa Teresa
Oil on canvas. Dimensions: 81 x 75 cm. This colonial painting of great devotion portrays the mystical ecstasy of Saint Teresa of Avila, pierced by an angelic arrow as a sign of spiritual union with God. The work, executed in oil on canvas, emphasizes the ascending movement of the angels and the flight of the dove, symbols of the Holy Spirit. The composition is part of the Baroque tradition of New Spain, rich in religious and mystical narratives.
