17th Century Spanish School - Wooden console with little angel
Baroque corbel in gilded and polychrome wood. Dimensions 51 × 29 × 31 cm. Decorated with the figure of a little angel, whose childlike expression and outstretched wings lend lightness to the piece. The carvings, which display a delicate movement of scrolls and acanthus leaves, reveal the meticulous sculptural technique characteristic of the 17th century in Spain. The corbels, used in sacred architecture to support images or relics, embody the tendency to merge the decorative with the functional in church interiors.
