Spanish School of the 19th Century - Virgin and Child Enthroned
Carved and polychrome wood. Dimensions 51 × 29 × 25 cm. This Madonna and Child enthroned presents a maternal image characteristic of 19th century Spanish imagery. The Virgin holds the Child Jesus on her lap, transmitting a feeling of protection and serenity. She wears a red cloak with gold trim and a lace veil that frames her face, while the Child appears naked, highlighting the simplicity and purity in her representation. The work reflects the devotional spirit of the time, where sculptures of the Madonna and Child not only fulfilled a religious function, but also a central role in family and community iconography.
