Spanish School of the 18th Century - San Sebastian
Carved and polychrome wood. Dimensions 145 × 62 × 40 cm. The figure of Saint Sebastian, a Christian martyr, appears tied to a tree, his body pierced by arrows, but maintaining a serene expression. The treatment of the flesh tones and wounds is detailed, accentuating the drama typical of 18th century Spanish Baroque art. His slightly contorted posture adds dynamism to the work, while the use of a soft palette contrasts with the pain depicted in the scene.
