19th Century Chinese Marble Lion Couple
These mythical animals are guardians that are depicted in pairs, with one or both front legs resting on a threshing floor. They usually guard the entrance to temples and tombs to anoint demons and other evil spirits. They are animals, symbol of energy and courage. When protecting the entrance to a sacred space, couples are represented. The male holds an orb under his paw and the female holds a young. Measurements: 93 X 35 X 27 CM
