The book by GI Vzdornov ”Theophanes the Greek” aims to give a complete picture of the outstanding artist of the second half of the XIV century. A native of Byzantium, he spent half of his life in Russia and worked in Novgorod, Nizhny Novgorod, Moscow and the environs of Moscow. Thus, the work of the Byzantine Theophanes is in no way inseparable from the history of Russian art. His works have survived only in the USSR. The book opens with an introductory article about Feofan and his era, an anthology of the best texts about Feofan from the works of Russian, Soviet and foreign scientists and bibliographic information about the artist.
