Antique French silver cup with engraved monogram reading Henri Martin
Antique French silver cup, 19th century, decorated with an engraved inscription of the name of the known historian Henri Martin. Gilding remains inside, circular decorations, signed, weight: 76 gm, height: 8.4 cm. *Henri Martin (20 February 1810 - 14 December 1883) was a French historian, who was celebrated in his own day but whose modern reputation has been eclipsed by the greater literary and interpretive powers of his contemporary, the equally passionate patriot Jules Michelet, whose works have often been reprinted.
