The ways of HaRav Kook Chief Rabbi of Israel, and that of Jabotinsky head of the Revisionist Zionism movement, both visionary and dynamic men, met during the mandate in Israel. After Jabotinsky was arrested and sentenced to 15 years of prison, following his leadership of the independent military force organization for the protection of Jerusalem during the riots of the 1920's, HaRav Kook's toiled for his release, alongside other leaders of the Jewish settlement. As a result of his operation, Jabotinsky was released after just a few months.
After the assassination of Chaim Arlosoroff, several revisionist activists of the Zionist group were arrested and sentenced to death by hanging. HaRav Kook went out stubbornly for the detainees and claimed there was no evidence connecting them to the murder. He set up at his home a committee for saving Abraham Stavsky, published flyers for his defense, raised public personalities for this purpose. The activities of HaRav Kook separated from him a large public and created a resistance against him, hostile criticism and words of mockery against him from the people of the settlement, who were influenced by the spirit of lynch against the revisionist. Jaboyinsky very much appreciated the brave activities of HaRav Kook to prove the innocence of Stavsky, contributing to his acquittal in the appeal and to rescue him from being hanged. In his article (1934) 'אלה שהצילו', Jabotinsky wrote words of appreciation for the dear personality of HaRav Kook and his great soul, stating: "נשמה הנושמת ופועלת תוך מגע קבוע כלשהו עם כוח על-ארצי, מגע ויחס כשל בן אל אביו – כולו הדרת-קודש, ועם זה יחס של קירבה יתרה". This item includes a correspondence of Jabotinsky to HaRav Kook, expressing the special connection between them and the full appreciation of Jabotinsky to HaRav Kook, at the end of the Rav's life.
