Very Rare: The Journal of Mr. Samuel Holmes - First Edition 1798
The Journal of Mr. Samuel Holmes, serjeant-major of the XIth light Dragoons, during his attendance as oce of the guard on lord Macartney's embassy to China and Tartary 1792-3.
London: Printed by W. Bulmer and Co., 1798.
Holmes was a soldier in the late 18th century who kept his diary during Lord Macartney's attempt to establish an embassy in China, which was then considered a mysterious and isolated nation. The author documented diverse cultural characteristics of the places he visited and recorded geographical references. Fancy half-leather binding with golden letters on the spine.
English, 256 pp., 22x14 cm. Good condition.
