January-July issues (53 to 78) of the year 1836 of the journal "Gilead" which dealt with the Mishnah, Halacha, Torah interpretation, Jewish history, philosophy and poetry. The journal was published between the years 1834-1836 and was one of the first on Jewish matters to be published in England. The editor was the American Orthodox rabbi Morris Jacob Raphal (1798-1868). Before the American Civil War he published a notorious essay called "Bible view of Slavery" about slavery in the view of Judaism. The articles in the journal deal with topics such as the concept of justice in Judaism, history of the Hebrew kings, Samuel the prophet, etc.
