François Viger: RARE BRONZE PENDULUM WITH THREE GRACES
RARE BRONZE PENDULUM WITH THREE GRACES.
Viger, François. Paris
Date: Ca. 1770.
Technique: Bronze, fire-gilded, partly polished, partly matte. Ebonised wood.
Description: On a square, ebonised plinth with fluted corners, a round base with laurel or vine leaves.
On it, three graces dancing around a column, holding garlands of roses in their hands. On
the column, the tambour-shaped clock case with rose hangings and crowned by a small Cupid
on clouds presenting an effigy. Enamel dial with Roman hours and Arabic minutes, 14-day
pendulum movement with thread suspension and half-hour strike on bell.
Measurement: 52,5x17,5x17,5cm.
Mark: Dial and back plate marked "Viger Paris'"François Viger (from 1744, Tardy p.641).
Enclosed: Pendulum & key.
