In-folio, [xx], 865 pp, title in red and black, title vignette, printed in two columns: ancient Greek and Latin. Lacking the prize leaf. Old note on the author on the fly leaf. Slightly age-toned, but a good copy. Full gilt vellum SCHOOLPRIZE BINDING, with the coat of arms of AMSTERDAM within floral border on both covers, spine gilt in compartments, lacks ties
About 1600 letters of Libanius have been preserved, more letters than those of Cicero. They throw considerable light on the political & literary history of the 4th century.
