Milo D'Arza (1874-1942), "General Pétain", a wooden carved painted silhouette of General Pétain. Signed and dated b.r.: 1919. Giovanni Marazolli (later Milo D'Arza) was an Italian who went to France and produced works in the Catelami tradition. This Italian tradition involved painting silhouettes and then carving them. The general depicted is Philippe Pétain, a French general who rose to become a war hero and commander-in-chief during World War I, during World War II, however, he collaborated with the German occupiers, making him a controversial figure in French history., 44,5x14,5 cm
