A sumurai doll, Japan, Meiji period (1868-1912), ca. 1900 The doll probably represents the legendary samurai Minamoto no Yoshitsune. He is dressed in traditional clothing and wears armor. On his head he wears a loose helmet, in his hand a loose baton and at the back he carries a weapon. The doll is made of gofun paste, a powder made from the itabo oyster. 45 x 30 x 30 cm.
