Jack Nicholson, stage name of John Joseph Nicholson (born April 22, 1937 in Neptune City, New York), is an American actor, screenwriter, and film producer. Considered one of the greatest performers in the history of cinema, [1][2] Nicholson is one of three actors to have won three Academy Awards (out of twelve nominations) along with Daniel Day-Lewis and Walter Brennan: twice the Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for the drama film "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" (1975) and for the romantic comedy "As Good as It Gets" (1997) and in the Best Supporting Actor category for the dramatic comedy "Terms of Endearment" (1983). Nicholson is one of three actors to have been nominated for Oscars for films produced in five decades: the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s. He has won seven Golden Globe Awards and received the Kennedy Center Honor in 2001. In 1994, he became one of the youngest actors to be honored with the Life Achievement Award from the American Film Institute.

His other film credits include the road movie "Easy Rider" (1969), the neo-noir "Chinatown" (1974), and the drama "The Mechanic" (1975). He also played Jack Torrance in Stanley Kubrick's horror film "The Shining" (1980), the Joker in Tim Burton's "Batman" (1989), and Frank Costello in Martin Scorsese's dramatic thriller "The Departed" (2006).
